Esilalei is situated around 120 km from Arusha and only 12 km from the Lake Manyara National Park. That’s why it is highly recommended to combine visiting the village with a wildlife game drive in the park.

Day 1

After a whole day safari game drive in the park you can spend the night at Isoitok Camp Manyara, where you can witness a traditional goat sacrifice followed by a Maasai BBQ and Swahili buffet spread.  Or stay at the Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge not far away.

Day 2

The next day you will drive to secluded village of Ordukai passing on the way by a beautiful oasis.  In the village you will be greeted by the Maasai people with traditional dances and songs.  Hike through the forest with a Maasai guide who will help you spot wildlife and also show you different plants and trees that are used for making food and medicine.

There is also an off the beaten track option for the adventurous. You can drive to a traditional fishermen’s village situated on the shore of Lake Manyara. It’s a great place for birdwatching, but also be prepared for experiencing a cultural shock seeing the everyday struggle of local fishermen.
